Learn the signs that tell you it's time to change the PETKIT Filter Unit RECT in your pet fountain, plus how often to swap it for fresh, clean water.
Quick answer
Replace the PETKIT Filter Unit RECT every 2-4 weeks, but check for reduced water flow, visible dirt, or a stale smell as signs it's time for a change.
What affects filter lifespan?
The multi-layer filtration system in the Filter Unit RECT traps hair, debris, and impurities. If you have multiple cats, a very dusty home, or hard water, the filter may clog faster. Conversely, in a single-pet household with filtered tap water, you might stretch the interval to the longer end of the 2-4 week range.
What happens if you wait too long?
An overdue filter can become a breeding ground for bacteria, making the water less appealing to your pet. You may also notice reduced water flow from the fountain or a stale odor. Replacing on time helps prevent urinary issues by ensuring your pet always has fresh, clean water.
FAQ: When to change the filter
- How often should I replace it?
- Every 2-4 weeks, depending on usage and water quality. For most homes, a monthly swap works well.
- What are the signs it needs changing?
- Look for reduced water flow, visible dirt or discoloration on the filter, or a stale smell from the fountain.
- Can I wash and reuse the filter?
- No. The filter is designed for one-time use. Rinsing it may remove surface debris but won't restore its filtration capacity. Always replace with a new unit. Keep a spare Filter Unit RECT on hand so you're never tempted to stretch the replacement interval.
